Women’s Clothes in the 70s

The world of fashion for Women’s Clothes in the 70s underwent drastic changes getting inspired by the women’s liberation movement of the 1960s. American women were unwilling to follow the fashion trends set by the fashion designers. In fact women in the 70s wanted versatility and many looks and followed only their whims.

In the 1970s women started preferring to wear anything they liked such as, a maxi dress or a midi skirt. Both mini skirts and long peasant dresses were in during the 70s. Women started wearing no-press casual pants and satin or velvet pants as evening wears.
A full length maxi dress, a gorgeous halter-neck catsuit and a nice-looking Motown dress were also in as popular Women’s Clothes in the 70s. Short flared check skirt and the diamond check mini dress were also quite popular among the ladies in the early 70s along with the Empire line dress with a sequined fabric top and attractive sleeves, this lovely dress being a typical attire for the women for an evening party. The high neck Granny dress with lace frills and a warm floral print was another popular trend for women’s fashion in the 1970s. A young lady usually wore short and mini dresses in the 70s and at a disco, she loved to wear don hot pants. A woman also wore dresses that covered her legs as a protest against men’s exploitation of women. The hippy outfits and the mish-mash also influenced women’s fashion in the 70s and brought in Nehru jackets and long flowing loose robes to the global world of fashion. A quilted and padded duvet coat, velvet jacket, hip-length woolen velour jackets and ombre-dyed raincoats were also popular among women in the 70s. From mid to late 1970s, kimonos, kaftans, djellaba, jalabiya, bell bottoms, flared trousers, trouser suits, tank tops and mix-n-match knitwear also were hit trends of fashion for women in the 70s.
